About the project

Model Risk Oversight is looking for an inspiring Chapter Lead
The Model Risk Oversight Tribe (MRO) is an energetic, international team of highly qualified Model Risk experts located in Amsterdam and Warsaw. MRO is responsible for the design and implementation of ING’s global Model Risk Management (MoRM) framework which scope covers all models used within ING Bank worldwide. The tribe supports/guides global and local model communities in the execution of the model life cycle activities, oversees, monitors, and reports on model risks.
We are looking for a Chapter Lead for the MRO chapter.

Your responsibilities

  • As a Chapter Lead you will drive the people agenda and spend about 40% of your time on people management & development. You will manage a chapter of about 6~8model risk experts, and the tasks include:
  • managing the annual performance management cycle with your chapter members (target setting, mid-year reviews, year-end evaluations, regular bila’s);
  • recruiting and onboarding new talents;
  • ensuring continuous improvement, promoting a feedback culture and driving team happiness;
  • inspiring individuals/teams to improve & grow and support career development;
  • setting standards for developing, innovating and safeguarding craftsmanship/ knowledge in the field of expertise;
  • working together with Product Owners, ensuring good quality of deliverables and realistic QBR and Sprints planning and resource management;
  • ensuring a balance between squad (deliverables) -vs- people development.
  • The remainder of your time (60%) you spend on content related tasks. As a senior/principal governance expert you:
  • are end-responsible for the quality of the work performed by your chapter members, in cooperation with the Product Owner
  • lead the further development and enhancement of the global Model Risk Management Framework and Tooling, and its consistent application across the organization; on central (Head Quarters(HQ)) as well as local (country) level.
  • support the Tribe Lead in development and maintenance of wider internal relations (with Senior Management on HQ level and within entities) and external relations (with regulatory bodies, peer financial institutions, academia).
  • You will be part of the MRO Leadership Team reporting directly to the MRO Tribe Lead. Together with other Chapter Leads, Product Owners and the Tribe Lead you contribute to the design of the Tribe’s vision & strategy and drive the execution. Your main base is Warsaw.

Our requirements

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and communicative colleague with strong people management skills who gets energized by coaching and inspiring individuals and teams to continuously improve themselves. You are a naturally collaborative person and team player who listens and invests in others to achieve common goals. You feel comfortable to provide continuous feedback to your team and embrace and promote the ING One Way of Working.
  • You have:
  • an academic degree and at least 8 to 10 years of related work experience in and/or proven affinity with the modelling domain and financial or non-financial risk management;
  • an understanding of key regulations (such as ECB guidelines to internal models, TRIM Guide, SR 11-7) and their respective effects on Model Risk Management;
  • experience in leading and/or coaching in the financial services industry in a hierarchical or project management role;
  • experience with effective stakeholder management, as well as auditors, regulators and onsite inspections;
  • experience in being a (pro-active) sparring partner/advisor to Senior Management, in which your presentations are well structured, easy to follow and can be both high level and detailed (on e.g. the contents)
  • well-developed influencing skills and persuasiveness to explain to different audiences the policy requirements and their application in practice.
  • experience with the agile way of working and have an interest in progressing with this
  • excellent English verbal and writing skills.

The MRO tribe is part of the global Model Risk Management domain (MoRM). Next to MRO, MoRM consists of Model Validation tribes for Trading Book, Banking Book Risks, Credit Risk, and Business & Operational Analytics. The MRO tribe consists currently of several squads, one of which is the iModel squad, Framework&Governance squad and others.
