About the project

Client is an American e-book and audiobook subscription service that includes one million titles. Platform hosts 60 million documents on its open publishing platform.
The platform allows:
— anyone to share his/her ideas with the world;
— access to audio books;
— access to world’s composers who publish their music;
— incorporates articles from private publishers and world magazines;
— allows access to exclusive content.

Your responsibilities

  • Be part of implementing the infrastructure as code
  • Be part of the team which manages the growing AWS-based data platform infrastructure, which includes Kafka (MSK), Databricks, Airflow, Elasticsearch, MySQL (RDS), and a number of container-based services.
  • Help provide key components to our backend technology stack such as:
  • container orchestration infrastructure,
  • logging services,
  • monitoring and alerting patterns,
  • caching layers,
  • relational/non-relational clustered data storage.
  • Educate developers and help delegate traditional operational responsibilities to teams which are already taking an increased level of ownership of their production environment.
  • Share your experience and good judgement helping other teams scale their services operationally for years to come.

Our requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a DevOps engineer
  • Strong understanding of AWS platform services and their strengths/weaknesses
  • Experience managing clustered data applications
  • Experience working to improve 24/7 on-call rotations, reducing alert fatigue and improving automation
  • Ability to read code written Python
  • Ability to write code in Terraform, Go, Python, and/or Bash
  • Ability to debug YAML :)
  • A working understanding with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent
  • Experience in automation/configuration management using Terraform or equivalent
  • Level of English: Upper-Intermediate+

Everything we do in a team is infrastructure as code and supports fairly large scales of data and requests/sec. We need people to really dig into and understand AWS services and how those are going to be best integrated with our desired data platform tools. We have to automate a lot so that we can grow!
