  • Strong hands-on experience administering and supporting production MS SQL Server environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, query performance analysis, database maintenance, and high-availability practices.
  • Experience managing database infrastructure in AWS or another cloud or hybrid environment.
  • Practical understanding of infrastructure automation, ideally using Terraform and PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with C#/.NET environments and the applications that depend on managed database services.
  • Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams.
  • Experience managing team capacity while balancing operational support, incidents, maintenance, and project delivery.
  • Ability to establish clear KPIs, provide actionable feedback, and support individual career development.
  • Experience participating in recruitment and scaling engineering capabilities.
  • Structured approach to incident management, production support, performance monitoring, and operational risk.
  • Ability to convert high-level architecture and technical requirements into practical implementation plans.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead a database engineering team, managing its capacity, priorities, engagement, and day-to-day performance.
  • Mentor database administrators and support their professional development through regular feedback, clear expectations, and career plans.
  • Identify and address performance or well-being challenges before they affect the team’s delivery.
  • Participate in recruitment and help build a healthy, accountable engineering culture.
  • Own day-to-day database operations for the assigned brands, including administration, monitoring, maintenance, and incident response.
  • Ensure the continuous availability, performance, security, and operational stability of database environments.
  • Drive structured incident management, query performance tracking, and proactive database maintenance.
  • Support the team’s after-hours rotation and ensure operational knowledge, procedures, and documentation remain up to date.
  • Translate architecture and database designs into actionable tasks, sprint priorities, and clear deliverables.
  • Balance critical operational fixes with project delivery, technical improvements, and long-term product roadmaps.
  • Define and improve engineering workflows, automation, standards, and database management practices.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor, providing practical guidance on database operations, infrastructure, and delivery.
  • Partner with database principals, enterprise architects, product owners, and brand engineering teams.
  • Implement global security policies, compliance requirements, and engineering standards within the team.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager (Database) to lead the team responsible for the availability, performance, and operational stability of database environments supporting the company’s brands. This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management, technical guidance, database administration, and delivery ownership.
