Our requirements

The “AI-first” Mindset:
- Beyond technical mastery, we value quality engineers who treat AI as a core partner in their workflow:
- Agentic Testing: Enabling teams in leveraging AI agents to automate routine quality tasks, e.g. test generation, failure triage, flaky test maintenance, so engineering effort focuses on what requires human judgment.
- SDLC Optimization: Using AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) to accelerate test design, coverage analysis, and quality pipeline improvements.
- Regulated Awareness: Understanding that AI-generated test artifacts in a medical software context require validation, traceability, and human oversight - and building that into the workflow from the start.
Technical skills:
- Deep understanding of testing strategy designs - test pyramid thinking, shift-left practices, test isolation strategies, test parallelism, parametrization
- Hands-on experience with highly scalable testing frameworks for E2E and integration scenarios
- Proven experience with OOP languages (e.g. Java, Typescript) and principles, multiple languages are an asset
- Understanding and ability to apply testing patterns like Page Object Model, Screenplay, AAA, data-driven testing
- Extensive experience in developing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar), including sharding, parallelism
- Understanding of API testing - REST, contract validation, backend integration verification
- Fluency in AI-driven development and testing - flexible using different tools, preventing AI slop, applying agentic workflows and prompt engineering to daily work
- Experience with containerized test environments (Docker, Testcontainers) for reliable, reproducible test execution
Experience:
- 8+ years in software engineering, with focus on quality engineering and test automation roles
- Track record of setting and enforcing quality standards across teams, not just executing within them
- Professional proficiency in English

Your responsibilities

  • Design and implement a risk-based, layered testing strategy - minimizing risk by coverage through unit, integration and API tests, reserving E2E automation for critical user journeys
  • Use AI tooling as a primary driver of quality - agentic test generation, AI-assisted coverage analysis, resilient and maintainable automation. Shifting the balance from manual testing effort to intelligent, scalable automation
  • Shape quality engineering practices across the diagnostic solutions portfolio by defining shared standards, patterns, and tooling that raise the quality bar beyond the immediate product squad
  • Define and enforce testing standards, patterns, and best practices, enabling developers to own quality as part of their everyday workflow
  • Bootstrap and define Playwright automation patterns and reference implementations that the development teams adopt and extends
  • Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable feedback on every commit
  • Support the team in meeting medical software quality obligations by contributing to traceability, auditability and compliance processes
  • Evaluate and selectively adopt AI-driven testing tools applicable to regulated healthcare software

About the project

We are seeking a Principal Test Automation Engineer ( AI - first ) to own quality engineering strategy and automation for our greenfield Prenatal Screening product - a regulated clinical diagnostic solution for first-trimester trisomy and preeclampsia risk assessment. This is not a blank canvas: quality and traceability obligations are built into the foundation from day one. As the platform matures, there may be an opportunity to expand your scope further within the portfolio.
This is not a QA management role - it is a hands-on engineering role. As a Principal-level individual contributor, you will create automations, define and enforce the standards, establish the foundational frameworks, and embed quality into the daily engineering workflow - working with the whole team through code review, tooling and technical guidance. You will apply AI tooling and agentic testing approaches to enable sustainable quality at scale, in an environment where software quality is a patient safety requirement.
